Penitential Act Invitation We pray to be with God now and at the hour of our death. Invocations We remember with love all who have come before us. Lord, have mercy. We hope to remain faithful in love and service all our lives. Christ, have mercy. We call on God be be merciful in our final hours. Lord, have mercy. Prayer of the Faithful The universal prayer As the days become shorter, we bring to mind those who have died and contemplate our own homecoming to God. Let us offer our prayers, with hope in God and in loving response to all who have ever prayed for us. For all the faithful departed. May those who have fallen asleep in the Lord find eternal life and be raised on the last day, especially those we now remember, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer. For the salvation of the world. May the Lord who is our shepherd provide for all in need, guide and protect them, and bring them to a place where the wise and just will shine like the stars, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer. For all who gather at the table of the Lord. May the celebration of the Eucharist show that to live with Christ we must imitate his sacrifice of suffering love, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer. For the church, the community of believers. May we experience communion with God, one another, the saints, and all who have gone before us in faith, we pray, Lord, hear our prayer. God of eternal life, none who have faith in you are lost. Listen to our prayerful words of faith, and lead us to our own final glory, where we will dwell in you and with your Son and the Holy Spirit, forever.

02 Nov 2025 - Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day), Cycle C

When I was a kid I was forever losing my belongings. I’d lose my mittens, my boots, my textbooks, and my homework (honest!). I lost a few baseball mitts, plenty of baseball cards, comic books, and my brand-new bike (on its maiden voyage). I lost my bus pass so often my mother decided I would walk to school from then on, which gave me more opportunity to lose more stuff on my meandering walk. Now that I’m grown, it’s thoughts and memories and names of people I’m forever losing track of. It seems to be the human condition that we can so easily lose many of the things we value. As fallible human beings, we can often feel lost ourselves. I know I do from time to time. But the gospel on this All Souls' Day, when we remember those who have died before us, all those people we say we have “lost,” ensures us that they are not lost. And neither are we. Jesus says the will of the Father is that nothing (and no one) given to him shall be lost. It is the Father’s will that “everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life.” That’s something to count on and something to look forward to. And maybe on that glorious day I will finally find that bus pass.
